We are making a couple of our songs available for free download.  The versions here are early production versions and are not the final product.  These are just to give you an idea of the kind of music that we are working on, although that changes from week to week!

We hope you enjoy.  You are encouraged to email us with your impressions.

Golden Stars, Golden Showers (Jim Jolly © 2001)

This is one of our earliest entries.  We've come so far since, I think we could now take it to new heights.  The song is a slam on the IRS, a government organization we all know and love.  As with a lot of Jim's songs, it's not meant to be taken too seriously.  Vince on the vocals.

Crimes on Mercury (Jim Jolly © 2001)

Paul sings this song about serial killers.  Our first few songs, which were released on a sampler CD, all seemed to have pretty dark themes.   We didn't really notice it beforehand.  One listener wrote in and was nearly suicidal!  Sorry! It was totally unintentional.  If you listen very carefully, you'll see that there is some humour in most of the lyrics.  This was the second song we recorded.

You notice that this website is idlehands.org rather than idlehands.com.  There are at least two good reasons for this.  1) We're a not-for-profit organization (although it didn't start out that way).  2) The website idlehands.com was already taken.

Ok, we're sluts.  But we love what we're doing.  We would like a small portion of the world to love what we do as well.  Be an Idle Worshipper.  Go to CD Baby and buy our CD.  Make us stars in our own minds!

We are a work in progress at all times.  Since we've gone into the studio, we've learned a ton about what works and what doesn't.  In some cases, what other people think really doesn't matter, because they don't really know what we were trying for.  Consequently, our music doesn't appeal to everybody.  Tough shit.   We've been criticized for our vocalist selections on some songs (not, by the way, included here), but it's what we wanted.  Perhaps in context with a completed project, it might make more sense.  The two songs on this page are the first songs that we recorded.  I think that technically, it will be apparent that we have learned a lot, both as producers and as artists, when you compare them to the songs you listen to on the finished CD.

For at least part of the band, the ability and opportunity to create is more important than the acceptance.  Being artists, we have to understand and accept that ourselves.  But don't let that deter you...you're welcome to lavish us with praise on a job well done.  But, by the same token, we do welcome criticism.   It's how we make things better.  Just don't expect us to "go changing to try to please you" to paraphrase Billy Joel....
